The Weightlifting 101 Seminar
The secret to success in weightlifting is to build a strong technical foundation. In a Weightlifting 101 Seminar, we are wholly concerned with building that foundation perfectly - brick by brick. Mastery of the basics is emphasised through learning-by-doing.
The seminar runs over the course of a weekend and consists of 3 sessions both Saturday and Sunday. The snatch, the clean and the split jerk will be covered in great detail with each participant receiving extensive technical and stylistic feedback. Think of the seminar as personal training in a group context.
The seminar is suitable for all levels, competitors as well as beginners. The only requirements are that you are free of injury and have a positive attitude, i.e. a genuine interest in learning and a willingness to work hard.
The price of participation is €350 (refunds only in case of event cancellation).
The Weightlifting 101 Training Camp
If you do a seminar and you do it well - or if you are already a competitive athlete - you are eligible to attend a Weightlifting 101 Training Camp.
A training camp differs from a seminar in that there are fever participants, the level is higher, and the duration is longer. Adding to that, the technical depth is increased, and much more ground is covered.
While the emphasis is still on weightlifting, there might also be sessions touching on the dumbbell game and conditioning on the ergs.
A training camp runs over the course of 3 days, from Friday to Sunday, and there will be 2-3 daily sessions. Price of participation is €350 (refunds only in the case of event cancellation).
The Weightlifting 101 Coaches' Seminar & Mentorship
What makes the Coaches’ Seminar fundamentally different from all of my other events is that the participants are all coaches and looking to improve as such. In all other events, the participants take part as athletes.
My specialty as a coach is teaching barbell technique in the context of functional fitness.
When coaching someone, either one-to-one or in a group context, I immediately size up the person and try to imagine how he or she would look at their very best. I quickly know what mistakes they are making, what they should be doing instead and how to get from A to B. I then begin to affect this transformation, step by step.
This - affecting the technical transformation of athletes - is the focus in the Coaches' Seminar.
However, my coaching is based on the learning-by-doing principle. You are not going to sit on a chair in front of a whiteboard all day to hear me talk. On the contrary, you will be going through the transformation yourself since you are in a better position to transform people if you have been through it yourself. Over the years, through elaborate trial and error, I have been developing a method with which to teach the major lifts. The training will be complemented by an exposition of that method.
The seminar runs over the course of a weekend with 2-3 sessions both Saturday and Sunday. Price of participation is €350 (refunds only in case of event cancellation).
MENTORSHIP
Select coaches are invited to participate in a mentorship programme, shadowing me during sessions in an Athletes’ Seminar or a Training Camp and debriefing between them.
You have to complete both an Athletes’ Seminar and a Coaches’ Seminar in order to obtain an understanding of how I work with the two groups - by being in the role of an athlete and in the role of a coach yourself.
While you are not required to be a particularly good athlete in order to become a coach, I believe in the importance of being a good student regardless of your athletic level - and of familiarising yourself with the basics at the very least.
The price of participation is €175.
The Weightlifting 101 Co-Event
The Weightlifting 101 Co-Event
If you do a seminar and you do it well - or if you are already a competitive athlete - you are eligible to attend this event type.
Running over the course of 3 days, from Friday to Sunday, with 2-3 daily sessions, the structure of a co-event is similar to that of a training camp. However, whereas all other events are coached exclusively by Erik, founder and head coach of Weightlifting 101, the co-event introduces either another coach or athlete. This in turn ensures that the event will not focus exclusively on weightlifting, but will include other areas of functional fitness such as running, swimming, gymnastics etc.
The price of participation is €550 (refunds only in the case of event cancellation).
